I am very excited to announce that the 4th annual Healthcare Summit registration is now OPEN! This is an IPE event with other colleges in the healthcare field including the UF College of Pharmacy, UCF College of Physical Therapy, UCF College of Medicine, and our very own UCF College of Nursing! The guest speaker is Natalie Harper, NOM from Orlando Health that will be talking about her nursing background, GN opportunities at OH, and interviewing skills! Ms. Harper has worked with Ms. Stacy Brzezinski and has all the tips about what managers look for in a new grad. And as I mentioned in class, she’s one of the interviewers at our mock interviews next month. This is a great opportunity to learn about what OH has to offer and gain some professional interview skills!

SNA’s October general meeting will be next WEDNESDAY, October 18 at 1700 in room 602. The speaker will be Shannon Hassett who is a UCF alumna and currently works in the ED at ORMC, a student in UCF’s DNP program, and also the philanthropy chair for UCF CON Alumni Chapter Board. If you remember her from speaking in our Adult 1 and Seminar classes, she is a fantastic speaker!

This year Knight-Thon is being held on April 1st at 2 PM until April 2nd at 10 AM at the UCF Arena. Knight-Thon is a 20-hour dance marathon that benefits the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and involves over 1,200 students who participate as dancers who stand for the kids who can’t. Hey guys! Relay for Life is rapidly approaching and there is still time for you to sign up and join SNA’s team! The event will be March 25-26 from 4pm – 6am at UCF Memory Mall. You do not have to stay for the entirety of the event, you may come and go as you please! This event is held in honor of fighting back cancer – all types and all ages. Nursing Students Week is next week, February 26th-March 4th! Here is the tentative plan: Sunday, we will encourage meditation and self-reflection on why we chose nursing. Monday, we will provide a group fitness time. Tuesday, there will be a chalk board and it will say “I bring ______ to nursing” on it, you will be able to take pictures with it! Wednesday, we will hold a Nursing Olympics at our general meeting! Thursday, we will encourage students to take time to do something that makes them happy and post about it on instagram with the hashtag fnsaNSW2017 (we will use this hashtag all week). Friday, we will encourage a pot luck with small clinical groups. Saturday, just post and share how awesome your nursing student friends are! Contact Nicole Ackenbrack for more information!

The Student Nurses’ Association is starting to collect purses, backpacks, and/or totes as well as toiletries listed above to pack the bags with! We will be collecting all of these supplies until late January. Once we pack all of the bags, the bags will be brought to the Orlando Coalition for the Homeless as well as the police station. Hi there! So now that Halloween is over, we have Thanksgiving to look forward to. It’s a time to be thankful for all that you have in your life and show some generosity towards others. Our Student Nurses’ Association will be hosting a Thanksgiving food drive starting today (November 2nd) at 12 PM and extending until November 15th. All goods will be donated to Seniors First! We hope all is well and everyone and their families were safe during the hurricane! Luckily for us, the hurricane spared us some damage and was not as devastating as originally projected. However, Haiti suffered severe damages and lost over 800 lives; this does not include those who were injured or missing. SNA will be collecting supplies until November 4th and we HIGHLY encourage that you all please consider donating! Contact any other officer with questions.
SNA will be hosting a Relay for Life fundraiser on October 24th starting at 6:30 PM in the Simulation Lab (6th Floor) at the College of Nursing! The Haunted Lab will be a walkthrough experience (similar to Halloween Horror Nights). Admission will be $5 and will go directly to our team’s donation page for Relay. There will also be a Halloween-themed bake sale at the event as well. We plan on making it pretty scary and would love to have you all show your support! Come on out and help raise some money for cancer patients and survivors!

Our speaker will be Dr.Valerie Lapp, who is a UCF Alumni, a Certified Pediatric Nurse, and also serves as the magnet program coordinator at Arnold Palmer Hosptial for Children! If you are even slightly interested in pediatrics or working at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, this is definitely a great opportunity for you. As always there will be good food, drinks, and coffee!
